Collection: Neck Protection

Motorcycle neck protection gear is designed to prevent catastrophic cervical spine injuries, hyperextension, and compression during crashes by limiting extreme head and neck movement while still allowing normal riding motion. The most critical piece is the neck brace (or cervical collar), with brands like Leatt and Alpinestars leading the market—these devices feature rigid frames made from carbon fiber, composite materials, or injected plastic that rest on the shoulders and collarbone, with a rear support structure that limits how far the head can move backward, forward, or to the sides during impact. Leatt pioneered modern neck brace technology with their DBX and GPX models, using breakaway components and specific angles designed to transfer impact forces away from the neck to the stronger torso and shoulders. Neck braces are most common in motocross, enduro, and off-road riding where high-speed crashes and over-the-bars incidents pose significant neck injury risks, though some adventure and dual-sport riders also use them. Other neck protection includes neck rolls (padded foam collars) that provide basic support and prevent jersey chafing but offer minimal injury protection compared to braces, and integrated neck support systems built into certain back protectors or riding suits. Key considerations include compatibility with helmets and body armor (braces must fit properly with your specific helmet design and chest protector), size and fit (measured by torso length and shoulder width), range of motion (allowing natural riding movement while restricting dangerous angles), and comfort for long rides. While initially controversial with concerns about unintended injuries, extensive research and data from professional racing organizations have largely validated neck braces as effective protection, making them standard equipment for serious off-road riders despite adding weight and requiring adaptation to the restricted feeling—the trade-off being potentially life-changing or life-saving protection in severe impacts.
